Friends of Dickinson Park’ is seeking play lot improvements as
well as landscape enhancements to provide a source of green space
and respite that everyone in the community could engage. Parks often
reflect the character of a neighborhood and by improving Dickinson
Park, we hope to invest back in our community and restore the park
for the next generation of Portage Park Residents and the city at
large. Located just northwest of the Milwaukee Ave and Irving Park
Road commercial corridor on an isolated parcel of land, we see
Dickinson Park coming into the future of new parks that offer
multiple resources such as green lawns, planned gardens, sculptural
interests as well as children & family play activities. These
features combined will seek to connect the neighborhood, celebrate
cultures and diversity, provide accessibility to all and improve the
quality of life for the Portage Park community and beyond.
We look forward to reaching this goal with The Chicago Park
District’s support along side a grassroots community fundraising
campaign seeking additional funding through partnerships with local
government, corporate sponsors and public space advocates. We also
plan to pursue many of the Community Garden resources through the
Park District to help us bring the campaign to fruition.
Starting in October, we will be seeking volunteers for fundraising
and planning efforts. Please email us and we will be in touch with
you as we organize our efforts. With assistance from our Alderman,
the Chicago Park District, Portage Park Neighbor's Association and
the community - we look forward to an exciting and rewarding
campaign to improve this little gem of a park for everyone to enjoy!
