Background This past summer, a group of concerned residents
upset with conditions at both Portage and Dickinson got together to
discuss how to improvements could be made. As a result of that
discussion, a Parks Committee was formed under the Portage Park
Neighborhood Association. Creating a Portage Park Advisory Council
through the Park District (that would cover both Portage and
Dickinson) is the next step in the process.
What is an advisory council?
The charge of an advisory council is to provide suggestions,
comments and recommendations to the Park Supervisor and others
within the park district, an advisory council helps create a
stronger park system and improves park conditions and park programs.
A council works in partnership with park staff and advises them of
the needs, desires and concerns of the community.
